Product Overview: Drag Race Lower Control Arm for Camaro and Firebird #TLC-71LDrag Race Lower Control Arm Product Link #TLC-71LGlobal West Suspension manufactures Drag Race Lower Control Arms for Camaro and Firebird--model years 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, and 1981.
TLC lower control arms for standard springs and coilover applications are similar to our G-Plus control arm design. The control arm bushings are different because the sway bar attachment points and additional plates required for the sway bar have been removed in order to lighten up the control arm.
Weight savings is minimal when using the lower arm because of the tubing wall thickness required. The weight savings on a set of four is mainly through the upper control arms. The overall weight saving by using all four is 8 pounds. Lower arms are considered load carriers and are "beefed up" to handle wheel stands and extreme loads. The liability issue of using super light lower control arms in-lieu of saving weight increases exponentially on 3000 plus pound cars.
We feel it is not worth piling up a race car over 5 pounds when the lower arm collapses from a wheel stand. Besides, Global West tubular arms have far greater benefits through geometry and bushing design. Purchases should not be based on weight when other factors are involved.
