There is an alternative to polyurethane upper trailing arm bushings for Mustang 8.8 rear ends. The SP-56 from Global West Suspension replaces the rear end upper trailing arm bushings with spherical bearings for the Mustang (model years–1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004).
Spherical bearings allow the rear end to pivot properly without creating bind that causes excessive loads on the uni-body. The bind also upsets the suspension generally creating oversteer during corner exit. Freeing up the suspension from bind removes one more equation when tuning your suspension, especially when it comes to spring rates, and sway bar sizes.
Note:You can use this kit with any upper trailing arm that uses the stock bushing. It can be used even with a stock upper trailing arm. No modifications are required to the differential.
Note: If you are using a #SP-56 kit with a Global West #TBF-94 upper adjustable trailing arm kit you cannot use a panhard rod. A Watts link is OK. Panhard rods push and pull the differential laterally. The upper trailing arms, because of their acute angle, will control lateral movement. A panhard rod will conflict with the trailing arm setup and cause bind.
