Description
Global West manufactures rear adjustable upper trailing arms for the Impala, Bel Air, Biscayne, and Caprice (models years–1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1995 and 1996).
The arms are a direct replacement. The trailing arm attaches to frame using a Teflon lined spherical bearing. The bearing allows the arm to pivot without creating bind. You may not realize that even when the rear suspension moves straight up and down the trailing arm will tilt. The bearing allows for this movement. If you use a different type of bushing in this area resistance will occur. That is why the factory upper arms are designed to allow some flex.
The other side of the trailing arm simply installs on the existing rubber bushing. We recommend keeping the rubber bushing in the differential especially for street and aggressive driving.
