1971-72 A-Body Big Block Front Performance Suspension with Aluminum Spindles part# KT423-PK12B
A majority of people we talk to are looking for a specific stance or look for their project at completion. After the build, the car needs to perform equal to or better than a new car. The car needs to handle, ride decent, be lowered 1 to 2 inches, bigger brakes, capable of going to the track, but most of all be enjoyable for the weekend cruise. This is what the KT423 kits are all about. Let's look at the system. The modular spindle has a drop built into it. The spindle has a 1 inch drop, not 2. However, when you put the spindle with our CNR-42L lower arm (supplied in the kit), on this platform, you will get another 1/2 inch drop. This particular kit is using a standard performance spring and shock combination. The ride height will be lowered 1 1/2 inches from stock. This does not mean from where you car is now. There are variables based off of the condition of your existing springs or suspension system. Basically when the system is installed the lower control arm is pretty close to parallel to ground. The suspension has full travel without bottoming at the lowered ride height. Adjustments to ride height can be made by if needed. Raising the car is done by placing shims under the spring pocket. Global West has three different sizes of shims that install under the spring cushion in the lower arm. Lowering further will require trimming the coil spring. We have a video showing you exactly how to do that and get it right the first time. We also have other springs that could possibly be used. We recommend installing the kit first and get the car on the ground. Note: You should have the correct wheels and tires you are going to use to be accurate. Roll the car the distance of the wheel base and bounce the car to settle the suspension. On a flat service then check your ride height. Note: Ride height must be checked with full weight of the vehicle. This means as if you are ready to drive down the street. Don,t forget the hood. Once you have rolled the vehicle onto a flat surface look at the stance of the car. If it is what you are looking for, your done. If not, contact us and our tech department will help you. Note: The modular spindle not only helps set ride height, it also changes the camber curve for better handling. Attach our steering knuckle to it and now we have the bump steer corrected and improved Ackerman. Let's touch on what we mean when we say negative roll: Negative roll refers to the suspension camber curve, tilt of the tire, as the tire moves up into the fender during body roll. The top of the tire tilts in towards the engine. This keeps the tire flatter on the pavement providing greater road grip. Normally a-bodies do the opposite during cornering, the top of the tire tilts towards the outside of the fender reducing tire contact with the pavement. This condition reduces cornering ability. The combination of components in KT423 kits reverse the factory tire geometry and provide superior handling over stock. Not only does the car handle better, the tires will last longer. Note: New alignment specifications are provided for KT423 kits. Note: Negative Roll suspension is commonly designed into race cars and current high end production cars. We just made it a bolt on for your platform. Brakes: The brake package supplied with this kit is a Wilwood, 6 piston, 13 inch diameter cross drilled and slotted rotor, aluminum hubs, aluminum hats, and performance pads. Wheel sizes required are a 17 inch diameter rim or larger. There are two reasons why we require a 17 inch diameter wheel. First the 13 inch disc brake must have a 17 inch diameter rim for clearance and second it is for clearing the steering linkage. Maximum backspace for the front wheels is 6 inches. If you are looking for handling on the street, have a decent ride, and have some fun, this is the package. Contrary to using excessive spring rates and massive sway bar sizes for the street, Global West is able to provide exceptional handling through geometry by using this combination of components provided in KT423 kits. What's included in this KT423 Kit:
  • Upper control arms specifically built for the system --- CNR-423
  • Lower control arms – standard spring --- CNR-42EXT
  • Front sway bar – SB883
  • Front shocks – Penske double adjustable
  • Front springs – Big block S-504
  • Tie rod adjuster and outer rod end assembly - ADJ-423
  • Aluminum Modular forged spindles GWLSA-1
