Description
Converting 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1967 Nova’s and Chevy two’s are easy with Global West Suspension’s mono to mutli leaf conversion kit. The reason for going to a multi leaf spring is to reduce leaf spring wrap up (wheel trap) without adding a traction bar. Generally, most traction bars hang pretty low and can substantially increase ride harshness. A multi leaf spring on the street becomes more practical for the average performance enthusiast. If drag racing is all the car is setup for, then the rear suspension should be set up slightly different. The Global West multi leaf spring part # L-9 will require a 1031 or a 1036 conversion kit.
In order for the multi leaf to fit, longer bolts with spacer plates are required for installing the leafs. The 1031 kit has machined aluminum plates that take up the space between the differential leaf spring mount and the leaf spring bottom plate. The bottom plate sandwiches the leaf spring holding the leaf to the rear end. If you install the leaf without using spacers to take up the air gap between the differential and the spring, the bottom plate will eventually bend and the leaf will become loose. You must have something to torque against in order for the leaf to stay tight.
The aluminum plates are anodized black and file the whole gap along side the leaf. They are the best way to go for appearance because they are really not noticed.
The kit also comes with two center pins and dowels for positively centering the differential on the leaf spring. Polyurethane pads for the top of the leaf spring are also included. Lower pads are no longer used or required with this kit 1031.
