Global West suspension offers a signature series racing leaf spring called CAT5. The leaf spring has special wound eyelets that house spherical bearings instead of bushings. This type of leaf spring removes the problem caused by conventional leaf springs. The problem, a rear raising rate as the leaf spring twists. That is why when installing a rear sway bar on a conventional leaf spring system the car exhibits more over steer. Category 5 Rear Leaf Springs CAT-5 leafs are special leaf springs with spherical bearings installed in the front and rear eyelets rather than bushings. Del-A-Lum bushings are supplied in the rear frame area along with shackles and specific hardware. CAT-5 leaves are considered to be the ultimate leaf spring combination. This particular leaf part number L-11cat5 lowers the rear 1-1/4 inch drop. Reasons to use CAT-5 Leaf Springs: 1. Using spherical bearings in the eyelets allow the rear end to tilt during corners keeping the inside and outside tire flat on the pavement. This also works over bumps reducing the sharpness. 2. The spherical bearing and bushing combination do not allow the leaf springs to move laterally. Standard rubber and polyurethane bushings do,therefore using a CAT-5 system eliminates the use of a panhard rod or any other lateral-locating device. The end result is a smoother ride with the ability to put power down during corner exit. NOTE: Del-A-Lum bushings are recommended for making the system work as intended. However, street applications may use rubber or polyurethane bushings rather than Del-A-Lum. Keep in mind, the end result will not be the same.
