Part # TBC-50 – 1965-70 Impala -- Tubular rear lower control arms (Quite Ride Series)

The kit includes the following components:

  • 2—lower control arms pre-assembled Note: Will fit either side.
  • 4 – 5/8 bolts
  • 8 – 5/8 flat washers
  • 4 – 5/8 stove lock nuts
    •
    1. Installation requires the rear of the vehicle to be lifted off the ground. Support the vehicle on the frame. Lift up the rear end high enough to allow the suspension to go to full droop. The springs must be removed for lower arm installation. Tip--- After the frame is supported, lower the rear-end. Just before the shocks fully extend, remove the shocks off the rear end stud. This will allow the rear end to lower far enough to remove the springs. With the rear end in full droop remove the springs. The springs should slide out without too much trouble.
    2. With the springs removed support the rear end securely on jack stands and remove the lower control arms. We recommend doing only one side at a time.
    3. Install the new tubular arm with the bearing side to the frame. Make sure the bearing has a gold sleeve (installed from our factory) still on each side of the arm. After cutting the zip tie off, slide the assembly up into the frame and use the new hardware supplied in the kit. Place a 5/8 flat washer on the bolt first, slide the bolt through the assembly and then another flat washer / nut. Torque the bolt to 90 foot-pounds.
    4. Swing the other side of the lower arm up into the rear end. Make sure the parking brake cable is above the arm. Use the new hardware supplied in your kit for installation. Do not torque the bolt yet.
    5. After both arms are installed it is now time to install the rear springs. The springs have a small wind on the bottom of the coil spring called a pigtail. The pigtail goes over the raised centering ring and rests on the lower arm. The top of the spring will index in the frame. You will notice up in the frame a notch where the coil spring end indexes. Make sure when you install the spring that the top of the spring registers properly.
    6. After the springs are installed raise the rear end up to install the shocks. Tighten the shock nuts down to 65 foot-pounds.
    7. The final step will be to torque the main bolt holding the lower arm to the rear end. This nut should be tightened with full vehicle weight on the rear end. Torque the nut to 90 foot-pounds.
