Part # TBC-84 rear lower control arm kit is designed be a direct replacement of the stock arms and reduce the twisting loads at the frame bracket location. One of the week links in the rear suspension is the frame bracket to the frame. As the suspension moves through it's travel, twisting loads are placed on the frame bracket. The harder the bushing used in these locations the greater the twisting loads are placed in the frame. Therefore, our engineering staff realizing the problem designed the new quite ride lower control arm with spherical bearing and rubber bushing. The bearing system (mounted to the frame) allows the rear suspension to move properly without placing twisting loads into the frame bracket. This also provides for a smoother ride (less resistance) and and better rear end stability. In addition to the lower arm is a special coil spring cushion. The cushion adds additional isolation. |
![]() The photo to the right shows the bearing side of the control arm up into the frame. The bearing will allow the control arm to pivot (twist) without shifting laterally. Notice that the rear bracket is just welded to the frame with no other support. We have pre-made support brackets that require welding to strengthen this area. You can now see why we used a spherical bearing in this location rather than a harder performance bushing. TBC-84 rear lower control arm features:
To the right you can see additional components available to complete the rear end suspension. All of these components are designed to fix the Impala suspension. |
